Favorite Corners of My Home

When I moved in…

I wanted there to be one cohesive look and feel through the entire apartment. A theme I suppose! But because there is really just one large living space, it was getting tricky. Furnished with some modern aesthetics in the kitchen, I was having trouble decorating it consistently to my style. That style I have dubbed rustic-cottage (I know, it’s not a thing).

At first the clashing elements were not pulling together like I imagined. So I decided to decorate each corner individually instead of trying to match more of the materials, textures, and colors. I zoned the apartment, figured out what each corner needed, and always added some personal touch.

The result was even better than I expected. It’s now a very functional space, where we can work, entertain, and relax. I love looking around each room and finding something meaningful that brings me joy. Ryan has been a great sport with the decorating, despite some budget discussions and a battle I lost over incorporating a very large signed Billy Joel album into our living room. However, it’s a space we both love to come home to.

Gallery Wall

Above our kitchen table I hung some prints to create a gallery wall. My favorite is this map I had made as a gift for Ryan that shows the coordinates of where we met at the University of Delaware!

Outdoor Terrace

I love our little plant stand in the corner where I can grow herbs and vegetables!

Dressing Up the Bar Cart

We framed the lyrics to one of our favorite Eric Church songs. For those that know Ryan - no he actually did not write this, though it sounds like him! Added some crystal highball glasses, colored straws, and granite coasters. Fresh eucalyptus adds such a great scent and lasts a while!

Bedroom Lighting

The apartment has tons of natural daylight, but no lights. Seriously, we have no overhead lighting in the living room or bedroom. But I found these lamps from Home Goods that provide the perfect soft lighting. It’s so relaxing to come home to at night!

Open Concept Kitchen

I love our bright little kitchen, and that it’s a part of the larger living space. The finishes are a bit modern for my taste but I’ve grown to live it. I added my own touch with hand towels, a rustic utensil holder and my EVOO nearby.

Pineapple Hooks

I brought these little pineapple hooks back from a trip to Bali and they are so special to me! I wanted to incorporate them into our apartment without making the room feel too feminine or cluttered, so I hung them low by my straw hamper. I only selected a few bags to hang there that go with the aesthetic!

Bamboo Leaning Rack

Our bathroom is small so I liked the extra storage this rack provides. It’s the perfect place to put my calming bathroom necessities like my P.F Candles and diffusers, Nest room spray and lotions! Now it’s a place where we can relax.

Closet

I’ve been organizing my closet by color for years now because it makes it so easy to find things. Most of my dark clothes are on the other side. Thank goodness we have a lot of closet space in this apartment because I think Ryan has even more clothes than me!!

Wine Racks

Another view of all the wine storage this bar cart provides. I like to stack my cookbooks here too, provided there is enough space…

Sea + Cloud

I wanted the bedroom to be relaxing. I loved this 3 print set of calm water above the bed and I chose to tie it together with similar colored throw pillows against the white bedding. People have often said my bed is soft like a cloud - so the resulting space is a little bit of white sleepy cloud and a little bit of blue sea.

Coffee Corner

Very important business.. coffee. We love the Keurig but this nook looked like it was made for it, and it’s nice it’s not taking up too much counter space. Our mugs and K-pods are conveniently stored above.

Outdoor Seating

I wanted to add some fun color to the otherwise bland terrace. I found this cute little pom pom string garland to hang above the love seat.
This pillow cover was another piece I found in Bali, but unfortunately, it no longer matched to our indoor rooms. Luckily the fabric is indoor/outdoor so it was a perfect addition to the space! So comfy.

Hiding the Ugly

Our front door is so ugly. We have a large red fire safety notice that we don’t think can be removed, all these missing locks, and a big box protruding from it. I couldn’t look at it anymore so I put this cute little faux eucalyptus wreathe around it to hide the weird box and voila! The door is not so bad now!

View of the City

These globe string lights were one of the first things we purchased for the patio. I love all the nights we’ve spent out here with friends and getting to enjoy the view of the city. Whether daytime or night, it’s one of the best corners of the apartment!
